Tree removal

Slough council is consulting residents on plans to fell eight street trees along the A4 Bath Road to make space for new cycle lane and footway works.

The trees will be replaced with disease-resistant species.

This affects A4 Bath Road from its junction with Huntercombe Lane to its junction with Cippenham Lane.

Trees proposed for removal (eight total): four horse chestnut, three cherry, and one red horse chestnut.

The consultation opens on Friday, September 26 and closes on Saturday, October 18.

Planning

A proposal has been submitted to replace 21 windows and a side door at Theatre Barn in Taplow (ref 25/2925)

The grade II listed barn conversion, which dates to the 18th century, sits off Woodburn Common Road.

Proposed new windows are designed to match the existing ones in size, shape and colour, but the lead lattice and stained-glass details in four of the current windows would be removed.

The applicants say many of the present frames are rotten, ill-fitting and draughty, making them difficult to use and costly to heat.

They argue the changes will improve thermal efficiency and reduce energy use while retaining the barn’s traditional appearance.

Meanwhile, repairs are proposed to Shepherds Close, a grade II listed house in Village Road, Dorney.

Set within the Dorney conservation area, the site may have once been the site of a medieval cottage.

Today, it is home to a home that was extensively rebuilt in the 1920s using salvaged historic materials to mimic a Tudor cottage.

It is one of a group of similar houses remodelled by Thomas Quarterman, a locally significant builder active in Dorney in the early 20th century.

The plans, submitted by Sir Stephen and Lady Sedley, cover timber frame repairs and window and door restoration among other changes (ref 25/02987).
