STEVE Redgrave has been made a knight — and the rest of the gold medal-winning coxless four from Henley all honoured in the New Year list. Sir Steve immediately promised to use his “raised profile” to benefit charities and local good causes, which would include the Caversham Lakes rowing training centre. He has set himself a target of raising £5 million.
The order which makes Henley’s trial traffic scheme permanent has been issued — seven months after Oxfordshire County Council confirmed that the scheme would stay. The traffic order, which regulates the layout and traffic use of Market Place comes into force on the expiry of the present experimental scheme on March 3, 2001.
