EARLY on Christmas morning, Shiplake was visited by one of the most disastrous fires ever known in the village. It appears that Mr H T Simms was roused about 4am by a crackling noise and, on looking out of his bedroom window, he saw smoke and flames belching forth from Mr R H Gooch’s stores opposite. He immediately telephoned Henley police station and the fire brigade was summoned.
The management of the Henley Palace Cinema have booked for the New Year week two gigantic film attractions. For the first three days, Nazimova, Lou Tellegen and Otis Harlan in The Redeeming Sin will be the foremost attraction. The comedy, So This Is Art, will also be shown.
