THE first designs for Henley’s pedestrianised Market Place have been snubbed by town councillors. Three designs shown at a meeting of the full council on Tuesday evening were dismissed as “disappointing” by members. One member, Cllr John Howard, said he was disappointed by their lack of imagination. He added: “This scheme is going to cost more than £600,000 and the proposed underground lighting alone will cost £250,000. It’s ridiculous.”
A battle over the use of pavements by shopkeepers in Henley has broken out after the issuing of a police warning. Police issued notices last week to those who use the pavements for signs or the display of wares that are “obstructive”. The notice follows complaints by the public.
