Choosing the photographer was the easiest decision to make! I met Kelly at a wedding where I was doing the hair and straight away I knew that she was the one. We both loved her quirky approach to photography and trusted her 100 per cent. She did an amazing job for us.
Scott and I had a whirlwind start to our relationship with Scott flying to Australia to be with me on the last leg of my overseas travels in 2008. We knew very early on we wanted to be together forever.
On the second anniversary of our meeting we were booked to fly to Antigua for 10 days. With inches of snow on the ground we were worried that we weren’t going to be able to fly, but Scott seemed particularly concerned and I couldn’t work out why! When we arrived in Antigua, Scott took me to the gazebo where couples get married, overlooking the sea.
He asked me to take a picture of him and as I pointed the camera at him, I saw that he was on one knee with a ring box in his hand. He then asked me to be his wife. I was elated.
The church ceremony, conducted by Rev Alan Dibden, was the highlight of the day. Scott, his dad and all nine ushers gathered in the pub across the road beforehand to calm their nerves before taking their seats in the church. Dead on 1.30 (not a minute late...in fact I was a bit early and we had to wait around the corner!), I arrived at the church with my dad. We had two beautiful readings, the first by one of our bridesmaids and the other by one of our ushers.
Everyone let out a big cheer when we kissed, although not as loud as the one when Scott knelt down to reveal the LOVE MUFC stickers on the bottom of his shoes.
I had a strong idea of what I wanted for my dress and eventually found a perfect Mori Lee dress. The dress had a dropped fitted corset with an asymmetric flower strap that added a lot of detail. I had an extra lace and satin flower made, which I then attached a pearl and crystal brooch to for extra detail.
My bridesmaids wore the same brooches in their hair. My hair was put up in a side chignon by my boss Michelle from The Vanity Lounge and I had a birdcage veil over my chignon to complement the asymmetric strap of the dress. Scott, his dad, my dad, the ushers and pageboys all wore grey tail suits. Scott and his best man Paul, both wore ivory cravats, while all the others wore black to match our bridesmaids. All the men looked very handsome that day but Scott stood out a mile to me.
My four bridesmaids, Stacey, Kristen, Tess and Sophie wore black floor-length dresses. We found these dresses together and fell in love with them straight away. They were tweaked slightly so that suited everyone – all the girls looked stunning. My bridesmaids were my sister Stacey, Kristen who is Scott’s sister as well as my best friend and Tess and Sophie who are two of my close friends.
For the flowers I chose gerberas – my favourite. They are very ‘happy’ flowers. I wanted the girls to have bright colours – red, pink, orange and yellow – to stand out against the black dresses - a different colour for each bridesmaid. The ushers had one of the colours for buttonholes. My bouquet was cream gerberas with the stems wrapped with in lace from my mum’s wedding dress for my ‘something old’. I walked down the aisle to the instrumental of Happy Ending by Mika.
For the signing of the register we chose Loves Divine by Seal and You are my lady by Freddie Jackson. We walked out of the church to Amazing by Luther Vandross. Our first dance was I Look To You by Whitney Houston followed by With Arms Wide Open by Creed. Our music was easy to choose – all of these songs meant something to us. At Huntswood Golf Club the wedding party sat down to a three-course meal with our wedding cake as dessert.
The decorating theme was black and white. Our favours were black and white bags filled with our favourite pick ‘n’ mix sweets. Guests had their places marked by shortbread biscuits iced with their names. All the staff were amazing and helped our special day go smoothly. I would definitely recommend it as a venue. Our beautiful cake, decorated in black and white, had three tiers of chocolate cake, carrot cake and lemon drizzle. We didn’t want a traditional cake so we were overjoyed when we found Lilybean Bakery who made just what we wanted.
I surprised Scott by booking a five-night stay in Marbella two days after our wedding. We loved every minute together as newlyweds.
We’re looking forward to a belated honeymoon trip to Las Vegas and Mexico.
