Kerry & Paul: Alice in Wonderland theme wedding

Kerry and Paul said they decided on an Alice in Wonderland themed wedding because they are 'all a little on the mad side in the house and it suited them down to the ground'

Where and when did the ceremony take place?

“Tudor Barn, Burnham. Saturday, November 10, 2012 (10/11/12!).”

The Proposal

“In Driffield,Yorkshire in our friend’s garden on October 26, 2011. And, yes, Paul was on one knee.”

The Ceremony

“Simple short ceremony, with my son giving me away.”

The Bride Wore

“Full length ivory beaded dress with a feather, wire beads and bow crown. (The White Queen)”

The Groom Wore

“The Mad Hatters outfit, minus the wig!”

The Bridesmaids Wore

Alice in Wonderland-themed dresses (dark purple) with huge pink and white bows, fuchsia petticoats and black and white striped tights. My sister, who runs Beryl Ware and Fanny’s your Aunt (www.fannysyouraunt.com) made the bridesmaid dresses.

The Flowers

They were handmade from purple, pink gingham, fuchsia and pink striped materials, with beaded flowers made from pearls and other pink and gold beads.

The Music

Provided by Enya and Ed Alleyne-Johnson who is a wonderful electric violinist.

The Reception

The Mad Hatters Tea Party. Guests were drinking out of tea cups as well as glasses. We had little favour boxes filled with jelly beans and all had a little ‘Eat Me’ tag hanging from them. For the wine bottles we had oversized ‘Drink Me’ labels hanging from them.

My sister decorated the room, made the bunting and designed the table centres. She also made two 4ft card men, who stood either side of the ceremony table. They each had a paintbrush in their hand and a bay tree with some white roses and some painted ones - just like in Alice: “They’re painting the roses red.”

The Wedding Cake

The main cake was a Mad Hatter’s hat with a crooked teacup on top as well as individual cakes of lemon drizzle, jam tarts, carrot cake and cheese cake. About half of the little ones had ‘Eat Me’ flags in them.

The Honeymoon

Marrakech, Morocco. It looked the perfect place to relax in the sun and not too far to go. The food was lush!
