The voice of the viral Jet2 holiday advert was on hand to open this year’s Cookham Christmas Street Fayre on Sunday.

The annual event, organised by Cookham Village Events, saw stalls and attractions line the High Street.

A ‘good few thousand’ visitors braved the wet weather as they enjoyed some festive fun, live entertainment and plenty of food and drink.

At noon, actress Zoe Lister, who lives in the area and is best known for her catchphrase ‘Nothing beats a Jet2 holiday’, officially opened the event.

There were around 80 stalls to browse from local businesses, community groups PTAs, charities and food and drink vendors.

Some of these included Devine Flowers, Age Concern Slough & Berkshire East, The Odney Club, Moneyrow Beans, Agosti Gelato, and the 1st Cookham Scout Group.

The Holy Trinity Primary School PTA also had a stall, as well as The Little Bookshop, SaveEnergy, Walking Wild Co, Sunday Tablewear, Copas Traditional Turkeys, House of BlueBelle, Cookham Parish Council and Cookham Festival.

Visitors could also enjoy dishes from Spice Merchant, Smoking Skewers, Greeklicious, The Peking Inn, the Old Butchers Wine Cellar and Prema’s Kitchen.

Guests could warm up with a hot chocolate or mulled wine and pick up Christmas gifts for their loved ones.

Youngsters enjoyed hours of fun on the bungee trampolines, fairground rides and a visit to Santa’s grotto.

Crowds gathered by the main stage area to enjoy a range of well-known tunes and festive numbers.

Among the performers were the Cookham Kids Singing Group, The Material Girls and The Cookham Cluckers.

Guests also enjoyed an acoustic set before The Tuneless Choir sang Christmas classics such as Merry Christmas Everyone by Shakin’ Stevens and Fairytale of New York by The Pogues.

Local musician Sean Pow was the final act to perform

before the festivities came to an end on the High Street.

Guests were invited to go to The Crown of Cookham, where ITV’s Britain’s Got Talent finalists the Northants Sings Out choir made a special appearance.

This year’s event was in support of Thames Hospice.

A silent auction had been running online up until the event, with prizes donated by stallholders and businesses.

Samantha Kay, committee member at Cookham Village Events, said: “It’s been an amazing community event.

“It’s been really busy despite the rain. It’s great to see so many people supporting the event.

“It’s been great to support local businesses and bring so many people into the village.

“It’s been brilliant – it’s been really busy, loads and loads of people coming and it's great to see some families and children enjoying themselves and just feels like a really safe and fun environment to really celebrate Christmas together.”
