An event honouring the United Nations designated World Meditation Day was held by Brahma Kumaris Slough on Sunday.
Brahma Kumaris Slough, led by centre co-ordinator Meera Javed, welcomed a host of guests to the event.
Brahma Kumaris is a worldwide spiritual movement, which is ‘dedicated to personal transformation’ and promotes both world peace and individual wellbeing.
To also mark the Winter Solstice on the same day, Slough’s deputy mayor Neel Rana initiated the candle lighting ceremony.
Other guests including local councillors, faith leaders, those from the medical field, and local community group leaders, also lit candles to mark the occasion.
Each year, people across the world mark the Winter Solstice on December 21. The day has the shortest daylight hours of the year.
In total, 120 guests enjoyed healing meditations at the event, through music, song and poems.
They were also treated to a festive Christmas buffet.
Organisers said it was a ‘hugely successful and joyful event’.
The Brahma Kumaris World Spiritual University was first registered as a charity in the UK in 1975 and has marked its 50th anniversary this year.
It welcomes people from all walks of life, backgrounds and cultures to study Raja Yoga meditation.
