Prince William has given a personal boost to the fundraising campaign to pay for a statue of Windsor Grey horses to celebrate the Queen's Diamond Jubilee.
The news that the Queen's grandson - now the Duke of Cambridge - had agreed to be patron of the appeal gives the official royal seal of approval.
The Windsor Greys who pull the Queen’s carriage at the Trooping the Colour ceremony have not been the subject of a sculpture before. Now permission has been granted to put one up on the Kings Road, Albert Road roundabout - but the private initiative will cost £200,000.
It is hoped it will be ready in time for June, 2013. This will be the 60th anniversary of the Queen's Coronation that happened over a year after her accession.
The sculptor is Robert Rattray.
