A Windsor schoolboy is raising funds to protect whales and dolphins with a sponsored walk in London next month.

Ibrahim Tariq, 13, will be completing the 5km challenge in Hyde Park to support the Whale and Dolphin Conservation (WDC).

The Windsor Boys’ School pupil will take on the walk on a Sunday in April, with the final date depending on the weather conditions.

Ibrahim’s passion for the ocean was ignited by his younger brother Zakariya, six, who has a fascination with sea creatures.

Ibrahim said: “My brother is obsessed with sea creatures.

“He watches sealife documentaries on repeat and drags me and our parents to every aquarium he can find.

“Watching his excitement for whales and dolphins made me want to do something that helps protect them.”

The fundraiser is part of Ibrahim’s Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award, for which he is asked to plan, promote and participate in an activity which benefits others.

Ibrahim has managed each stage of the project himself in his spare time, alongside balancing his schoolwork.

He added: “Organising this walk has taught me so much about commitment.

“I didn’t realise how much planning goes on behind the scenes - from researching the best location to mapping the route and promoting the event.

“It’s been a real challenge, but knowing that the money raised will help protect whales and dolphins around the world has kept me motivated. I’m proud to be doing something that can make even a small difference.”

Ibrahim has raised £185 of his £100 target.
