An autographed photo of Stirling Moss, health treatments up to the value of £160, an open carriage ride for up to four people and a Fenwick’s hamper are just some of the luxury items up for auction at a Hurst Bowling Club event on Saturday April 6.
Eighty items ranging from outdoor experiences to home goods including a dolls’ houses for children will be on show for the highest bidder to snap-up.
The highest value item on the list is a £360 four-ball at Castle Royale Golf and Country Club.
Monies raised will go towards the £70,000 already in the pot for the group’s much-need new club house.
The building has stood the test of time since the club’s inception in 1747 and desperately needs replacing to the tune of a quarter of a million pounds.
Planning permission has been granted and the group, whose patron is the Rt. Hon Theresa May, is hoping people will give the fundraising a push that was stalled by the pandemic and Storm Eunice, which heavily damaged the club’s facilities in 2022.
The auction takes place on April 6 at Hurst Village Hall. Viewing time is at 18:00pm with the auction commencing at 19:00pm. Entry free is £2.50.
Those interested in finding out more about the club may wish to attend the Open Day which is being held on April 20 from midday to18:00pm.
Whilst entering in leagues and remaining competitive, the Club first and foremost prides itself on being an inclusive social offering, aimed at those aged eight to 88. Many join just for the opportunity to escape isolation and feel a part of something.
The Club’s fundraiser and all-round volunteer Ronnie Ashley was recently shortlisted by the governing body for the sport, Bowls England, for its Diversity and Inclusion Award.
The Open Day will give potential new members the opportunity to have a go at the sport and learn about the benefits of membership. Tea and biscuits will be served and there’s a 50% reduction in club fees when you sign-up on the day.
