Registration open for drawing challenge

An artist is hoping to get about 2,000 children involved in an art project.

Este MacLeod, from Lands End Lane in Charvil, is running The ?uestion Mark Creative Challenge as part of The Big Draw initiative.

Children will be given a question mark doodle on a piece of paper and will then be asked to turn it into whatever they like on the theme of the natural world, small world or imaginary world.

"It is a little bit of fun, it is very simple to do," said Este, adding 'there are no real boundaries'.

"I think it will work well, children are creative."

Supported by Derwent, drawings will go on display at Norden Farm Centre for the Arts next year and at Windsor Contemporary Art Fair from November 7-9.

The artist also has plans to provide art training for teachers in participating schools.

Aimed at children between the ages of six-11, the project will take place in classrooms on October 23-24, and registration is still open for schools to take part.

A family drawing day is also set to take place at Craft Coop in the Nicholsons Centre, Maidenhead, on October 25, where everyone is invited to come and draw.

Este added the challenge is a way of celebrating creativity and how we all see things differently.

"The shape game is something that is as old as [from when] people have had pieces of paper and pencils," she said, adding it was something she used to do with her son when he was young.

"I was always amazed at what he came up with."

The Big Draw is an international scheme which runs from Wednesday to November 2 and encourages all ages and abilities to take part in drawing events.

Registration ends on Friday (October 3).
