Alexander Devine nurses to take part in upcoming Maidenhead Half Marathon

The countdown is on as the Maidenhead Half Marathon returns next week, following a four year-break.

The running event will take place on Sunday, October 26 and Alexander Devine Children’s Hospice Service is organiser RunThrough’s Charity of the Year for 2025 and 2026.

Three nurses from the children’s hospice, based in Snowball Hill, are set to take part in the event.

The hospice provides vital support and specialist care to babies, children and young people with life-limiting and life-threatening conditions and their families across Berkshire, South Bucks and the surrounding areas.

The half marathon will take place between 9am and noon, and will see runners start from The Moor in Maidenhead and take a two-lap route through the town centre and scenic countryside areas.

Entrants will receive a unique themed medal, as well as free race photos, chip-timed results and post-race goodies.

A team of marshals will be along the course and there will be an event village available on the day, featuring food and drink options, and free goodies from RunThrough’s partners at the finish line.

Vicki Jepson, who has been an Alexander’s Nurse at the hospice for six years, said: “It’s great to have a goal that not only benefits us getting fitter but also benefits the hospice and the families we see on a regular basis.

“We admire the supported families’ strength and resilience to be able to care for their children with such love in such challenging circumstances. A little run is nothing compared to what they do every day.”

Each pound raised will go towards providing creative therapies, respite care, end-of-life support and services for families.

Vicki added: “I am very grateful to have not just colleagues in the workplace but good friends running alongside me, to keep me company, and push me along.”
