Call to send 104 birthday cards to 104-year-old care home resident

A nursing home in Maidenhead is calling on the local community to join in celebrating one of its resident’s 104th birthday by sending 104 birthday cards.

Hilda Bond lives in St Mark’s Bupa Care Home in St Mark’s Road, which caters for residents in need of nursing or residential care including those living with dementia and Parkinson’s.

She will be turning 104 Saturday, July 6.

The care home plans to make Hilda’s birthday special by hosting a garden party with all staff and residents.

The party will involve a live singer and her favourite Victoria sponge cake.

Hilda is one of seven children born into a farming family in Hampshire.

She worked on Slough Trading Estate during the war for a zip factory, and when her partner returned from the war, they got married and had two sons.

When asked her secret for living a long and happy life, Hilda gave her simple but meaningful advice: “Just take one day at a time.”

Home manager Hazel Corrigan, said: “We really want to make Hilda feel loved and appreciated on her birthday, and hope our community gets involved in celebrating with us by sending as many cards as possible.

“It is always a special moment when residents find out they have received sometimes hundreds of cards from the community, they are always incredibly grateful, and it makes their day very special.”

If you would like to send a card to Hilda, address it to St Mark’s Bupa Care Home, 110 St Mark's Road, Maidenhead SL6 6DN.
