Several seriously dedicated Santas braved the wind and wet on Wednesday in Windsor to raise awareness of Alexander Devine’s Santa Dash.

In perfect practice for the big night before Christmas, Santas galore made a soggy trek from the Long Walk all the way to Stems Flowers, on Eton Bridge.

The troupe of Father Christmases visited local businesses around the town, making collection stops to pick up donated gifts.

In the Christmas spirit, generous businesses helped out Santa by donating presents for children to the hospice service.

The Santa brigade stopped by The Castle Hotel on the High Street, Windsor Royal Station and Daniel Department Store, and Theatre Royal Windsor throughout the afternoon.

The Santas’ early visit was in promotion of the annual Alexander Devine Santa Dash, raising money for the Alexander Devine Children’s Hospice Service in Maidenhead.

Departing from its usual work, Windsor Carriages chaperoned the Santas around, who were also flouting tradition by being seen in the company of a carriage horse, rather than the usual reindeer.

The motley crew travelled around Windsor with the Santas holding collection buckets and shaking Santa bells, ringing away in their Christmassy-themed carriage.

Meanwhile, it’s full steam ahead for the main event, the 5km Santa Dash in Windsor on Sunday, November 26.

Participants are invited to don Santa suits (or reindeer antlers) and take part in the Dash on the Long Walk to help raise vital funds for the hospice service.

Bring your friends and family and ‘take on 5km your way,’ say the organisers: run it, walk it, jog it, dance it or any other way you can think of.

Entry fees are £20 for adults, £10 per child and Family Tickets are £50.

This ticket price includes a Santa suit or reindeer antlers. All entries will receive ‘a special Christmas fundraising pack’ and a medal.

Sponsorship is suggested at £72 per adult, which could help give a child with complex healthcare needs a session of specialist care from an Alexander’s nurse this Christmas.

This event is wheelchair accessible and additional support can be provided where needed.
