A new attraction will be coming to Legoland after councillors gave it the green light at a meeting on Wednesday evening.

It comes after an application by the theme park to construct a new building in the car park near to the site entrance.

Comprised within the building on Legoland’s property will be four individually themed adventure golf courses separate to the main park.

Guests to the Legoland Windsor Resort as well as the hotel villages will be able to play adventure golf during peak season.

The 1,536sqm building, which is 5.95m high at its tallest point, will be built on an existing car park leading to the loss of 131 spaces.

However, with additional parking spaces already approved for a separate application at Legoland, planning officers at the council have said the adventure golf course would not lead to ‘any parking pressure’ at the resort.

Councillors were unanimous in their support for the application at Wednesday night’s meeting, which received no objections from the nine neighbouring households notified of planning permission.

Cllr David Hilton (Con, Ascot & Sunningdale) said: “This is a low rise building – less than six metres in height – albeit with a very large floor area.

“However, the new building [would be] incredibly difficult to see from any part of the public highway.

“I think I, and I guess other councillors sitting around the table here today, recognise that it is important for Legoland to continue to operate and generate economic growth and economic stability for the local area.

“To do that, it will need to modestly expand its activities and also regularly update its attractions.

“Legoland say it is a good thing for young people to get out and become physically involved, and I think that’s one of the things that Legoland sets out to do.

“That is a great antidote to smartphones and computer games, so this planning application has my full support.”

Cllr Hilton proposed a motion to permit the application, which was unanimously agreed.
