Hampton & Richmond Borough 2, Slough Town 3
Summer signing Tarik Gidaree scored twice as Slough Town claimed an unexpected but very welcome three points away to Hampton & Richmond Borough in the National League South on Saturday.
The Rebels were without an away win in the league all season - and came into this clash off the back of two disappointing league results against Torquay United and Hornchurch.
However, they had had success in the FA Cup, progressing to the final qualifying round with victories over Welling United and Bedfont Sports, so Scott Davies’ injury-hit side weren’t completely devoid of form or attacking intent.
They showed this in the first half with some fluid counter attacking play, with Harvey Walker doing well to whip in a low cross for Tarik Gidaree to tap home their opener in the 13th minute.
The Rebels had Ollie Webber in goal for the suspended Adam Desbois, while Balu Makumbi partnered Davies in central defence. They both played their part in an excellent away win, with Webber making some top saves to frustrate Hampton.
Slough’s second goal came shortly after the half-hour mark when Gidaree was brought down outside the area and Davies curled home a brilliant free kick to make it 2-0.
The player manager would have hoped his side might have held onto that lead through to half-time, but they conceded from the penalty spot shortly afterwards when Webber brought down Craig Fasanmade as he tried to run through on goal and Harry Gardner scored from the penalty spot.
Fasanmade came close to snuffing out Slough’s lead on the stroke of half-time, but the striker dragged his shot marginally wide of Webber’s right post.
Webber pulled off a fantastic save from a volley early in the second half to preserve Slough’s lead and Hampton dominated the opening 10 minutes of the period with Webber again called into action to keep out a low free kick in the 51st minute.
Yet Slough retained a threat on the break, and they illustrated that to good effect in the 62nd minute when Josh Adepoju’s shot was parried by the Hampton keeper into the path of Gidaree who finished well. Playing at right back, Gidaree came close to scoring an unlikely hat-trick in the 70th minute when his near post shot was deflected behind.

Hampton kept pushing, with Davide Rodari sending an overhead free kick narrowly over the bar in the 74th minute and Webber saving well from a free kick in the 90th minute.
But the home side managed to set up a grandstand finish when Craig Fasanmade (90+3') scored deep into stoppage time. There was still time for the hosts to rifle a gilt-edged chance for an equaliser over the bar in the dying embers, but the Rebels held on for a hugely encouraging victory.
The result lifts them to 17th in the table - now just a point outside of the top half in a congested table.
The Rebels are back on the road in their next league game at bottom of the table Salisbury on Saturday, October 18.
Before that, however, they’re back in FA Cup action at home to league rivals Enfield Town on Saturday (October 11) with both sides looking to reach the first round proper.
