Desborough Bowls Club crowned their club champions last month, with Mark Essex winning for a third year in a row after beating his twin brother Andrew, and Jacinta Monteiro overwhelming Angie Isaac to finally become women’s champion.

Mark took the family bragging rights with a 21-10 victory over Andrew and appeared on the honours board again when he won the Handicap Singles against Colin Jones and the Benevolent Triples with Keith Roper and brother Andrew.

Jacinta also followed up her win with victories in the Ladies Handicap Singles, Mixed Nominated Pairs with Keith Roper and Drawn Handicap Pairs with Linda Harvey.

It was also good to see new names on the honours board for with Chris Bowler winning the Men’s Novice Singles after beating Paul McVicar and the Drawn Handicap Pairs with Keith Harvey.

The women have also unearthed a new star with Dawn Davis winning the Novice Singles by default, the Nominated Pairs with Val Wyatt and the Drawn Triples with Sally Lane and Nicola Jones.

Other winners included Russell Dale and Mark Peachey who won the Men’s Nominated Pairs and Aussie Rules Pairs. Nicola Jones won the 2-Wood Singles, Mixed Aussie Rules Pairs with Keith Roper and Aussie Rules Pairs with Sally Lane who were both involved in the Drawn Triples.

Special mention must also be given to the game of the weekend which came in the Women’s Over 70s Singles final between Gina Braddock and Gill O’Neill. In searing heat, Gina appeared on the verge of victory leading 20-14, however, Gill somehow managed to fightback after winning seven shots without reply to pip to the title.
