Maidenhead duo conquer World OCR Championship and keep their Bands intact

Two Maidenhead students have earned their ‘bands’ on the world stage, competing against the best young athletes at the Obstacle Course Racing (OCR) World Championships in Sweden.

To earn their bands, Ollie Hearne and Robyn Francis had to negotiate every single obstacle on a tough course and get to the finish line.

Ollie was the 12th fastest to finish in his u10s/11s age group, but both athletes earned the respect of their competitors and coaches by completing the course.

OCR is like no other race. Similar in many ways to a Ninja Warrior course, competitors must climb walls, swing from ropes and tackle testing rigs to make it to the finish line.

They need both strength and stamina to mix it with the very best in the world at their age group.

Competing against 29 other races, Ollie managed to come home 12th fastest, having completed every obstacle to keep his band.

The pair train with FitIQ in Cookham under the expert guidance of coaches Lou Ferriman - a former World Champion herself - and Shy, who came home with a bronze medal from this year’s championship.

With Lou and Shy’s support, both Ollie and Robyn are making their presence felt on the world stage and will hope to compete for a podium position in future championships.
