Senior Women’s Singles champion, Lauren Webb

Maidenhead Lawn Tennis Club’s Finals Day had it all on Sunday (September 7), as hundreds of members gathered on All Saints Avenue to cap off a sizzling summer of competition.

With 40 fiercely contested finals across senior and junior categories, the courts were buzzing from the first serve to the last handshake.

The rain made a brief appearance, and gusty winds kept everyone on their toes.

One of the day’s biggest cheers was reserved for Lauren Webb, who rolled back the years to reclaim the Senior Women’s Singles title—a full 16 years after first lifting the trophy as a 17-year-old in 2009.

In a thrilling final, she edged past Namfon Avellano 7-5, 6-3, showing the same grit and flair that saw her win the competition as a teenager.

The Men’s Singles final was a repeat of last year’s final between Gregor Webster and Lewis Brown. Despite Brown’s best efforts, it was Webster who retained his crown, winning 6-1, 6-4 in a high-quality contest filled with big serves and sharp rallies.

But Brown wasn’t done yet...

Just hours later, Brown teamed up with Andrew Flynn in the Senior Men’s Doubles Final, where they faced the duo of Webster and Elkan Dillon. After dropping the first set, Brown and Flynn clawed their way back with determination and clever net play to take the match 5-7, 6-4, 6-4 – sweet revenge served with style.

Brown added another trophy to his day’s haul in the Senior Mixed Doubles, partnering with Amber Knight to take down Webster and Daisy Doherty 6-4, 6-1 in a match that swung firmly in their favour from midway through the first set.

The Senior Women’s Doubles Final offered one of the day’s tightest contests. After an intense baseline battle, it was Xanthe Ashe and Daisy Doherty who held their nerve in the tiebreak to beat Knight and Steffi Swanson 6-4, 7-6 (7-5).

The prize-giving ceremony was a fitting finale to the day, with club president Alan Frampton praising the players’ spirit and sportsmanship, and the volunteers who made the event such a success.

Lauren Webb, fresh from her singles triumph, joined Frampton to present trophies – and also gave a heartfelt speech supporting the Brett Foundation, a local charity helping the homeless and those in poverty across Maidenhead.
