The first basketball club in Maidenhead will take to the court in Division 3 of the Wessex basketball league this coming season.
The Maidenhead Royals, which was set up by club chairman Hardy Kapoor, confirmed last week that their home court for this season will be at Windsor Girls' School.
The Royals train weekly on Thursday evenings from 7-8pm at Furze Platt Leisure Centre with the first session for new players free of charge, and subsequent sessions priced at £5.
“I have been trying to start a basketball club for the last two years and managed to gather people around Maidenhead interested in basketball,” said Kapoor.
“I moved to Maidenhead 11 years ago and loved Maidenhead the day I moved here.
He added: “I played basketball at college level in India and have great love for the game.”
The club has already played some pre-season matches in preparation for the new season, with a friendly against Windsor Warriors last week ending in a narrow overtime defeat after the two had drawn 86-86 all.
There are more friendlies on the horizon for the club, who are set to take on Bracknell Cobras in August.
The club is still looking for more players to get involved and welcome any players interested in basketball.
