Desborough Bowls Club got their 2025/26 indoor season underway this week with a tough defeat against Whiteknights, but the Green Lane-based side bounced back in style with a commanding win over Swindon Manor.
The Wessex League indoor season kicked off with a series of competitive matches, with their most recent game against Loddon Vale delivering a dramatic twist.
Desborough were edged out by a single shot, with the Basingstoke based side claiming a measure of revenge for their eliminations at the hands of Desborough in several national competitions.
Despite this mixed bag of results, the Wessex League squad continues to show real promise, and they’ll hope to pick up more positive results as the campaign progresses.
In this week’s friendly matches, Desborough welcomed Egham to Green Lane for the second leg of their tie, with the visitors prevailing 107-97. However, Desborough’s impressive first leg result means they claimed victory by five shots overall, a testament to their character and competitive spirit even in defeat.
The internal leagues are also now reaching their final weeks, with many Desborough teams in the battle for promotion and against relegation. However, bowlers are also starting to focus on the recently drawn club knock out matches which begin in the new year.
