Youngsters excitedly picked out their favourite Halloween costumes at a swap shop at Maidenhead Library on Friday (October 20).

The event, organised in partnership with the Royal Borough’s sustainability team, saw visitors bring along their old costumes ready to swap for a new one.

About 40 to 50 people came to browse the rails and choose their favourite costume between 3pm and 5pm.

A total of more than 50 costumes were donated as part of the event.

Philip Hanna, Maidenhead Library supervisor, said: “Everybody was getting into the spirit.

“The kids were really excited. They really found what they wanted, and they immediately ran to their parents and were saying ‘can I have this?’”

Philip added the Halloween Swap Shop is still running this week and people are welcome to come and swap their costumes until the end of the working day this Friday (October 27).

“We've got a couple of rails of Halloween clothes up, there's no charge for it,” he said.

“We just ask people to bring in their kids’ old costumes and stuff, and they're free to take one in return.”

Of the event, Philip added: “[I’m] delighted by the attendance and hopefully this week, with half term coming along, there'll be lots more people coming in.”

This was the second swap shop to take place at the library and Philip said it will be made an annual event.

He added that the library is also hoping to carry out other similar events, including a Christmas jumper swap shop.
