TGJones is set to leave Maidenhead after being unable to find an alternative location in the town to move to.
The stationery and book retailer will close its doors in the Nicholsons Centre on Saturday, May 16.
The Post Office, which is housed inside the store, will also close on the same day, but an alternative location is being sought for it.
In an update given in mid-February, the Post Office said it had ‘received a large amount of interest from existing retailers’ in Maidenhead and would be reviewing the applications to ‘determine the best option to maintain service’.
The former WHSmith store was transformed into TGJones after
WHSmith PLC agreed to sell its UK high street business to Modella Capital in a £76m deal last year.
Areli’s major re-development of the Nicholsons Centre into a mixed-use scheme of shops, restaurants, offices, flats and a new multi-storey car park was given the green light by Royal Borough councillors last year.
Tenants were informed in December that the shopping centre is scheduled to close in June to allow for its demolition and re-development.
TGJones previously said it had been given notice by the landlord that its lease would be terminated ‘effective June 2026’, and the company was in the process of looking for an alternative location in the town. However, in a latest update, the company said it had hoped to find an alternative location to move to, but ‘were unable to do so’.
In recent weeks, signs saying ‘store closing down’ and ‘everything must go’ have gone up at the store.
A spokesperson for the company said: “We had hoped to find an alternative location but unfortunately were unable to do so.
“We are working with the Post Office as they seek a new partner for Maidenhead and working hard to support all those colleagues impacted by this.”
The closure will see the retailer join others who have already moved or are set to move out soon.
Signs have recently gone up on the shutters of H.Samuel in the shopping centre stating, ‘this store is now permanently closed’.
The sign pointed shoppers in the direction of the jeweller’s nearest branch at The Oracle in Reading.
