Man jailed for nine years for child sex attacks

A 41-year-old man from Maidenhead has been sentenced to nine years in prison after he was found guilty of sexually assaulting a child.

Anthony Bharji, of Ellington Park, was convicted of two counts of assault of a child under 13 by penetration, three counts of sexual assault of a child under 13, one count of attempted voyeurism and one count of making an indecent photograph of a child.

A jury returned a unanimous verdict on Friday, August 5.

Judge Angela Morris, sentencing at Reading Crown Court on Tuesday, said Bharji would have a restraining order imposed and would be subject to notification procedures for life.

‘Notification procedures’ is the revised terminology for the sex offenders register, to make it clear that it is the sex offender’s duty to keep police notified of their whereabouts, according to the Crown Prosecution Service.

Of the victim, who cannot be named for legal reasons, the judge said: “She is now having to undergo therapy in order to deal with what you did to her.”
