More than 400 pupils from nine schools across Maidenhead took on Disney and Dreamworks inspired physical challenges at Braywick Leisure Centre.
The Ascot & Maidenhead School Sport Partnership organised two Active 60 Festivals for five to seven-year-olds on Thursday, February 26 to encourage youngsters to enjoy being active.
The activity also fulfils the Chief Medical Officer’s recommendation for children to complete 60 minutes of physical activity every day.
With the event previously being oversubscribed, the organisers doubled its size, booking a double sports hall to cater for more children.
The Active 60 Festivals took place across the morning and afternoon and involved whole classes of children, taking part in a series of physical challenges designed to discover balance, agility and co-ordination.
The themed challenges included Moana’s Archery and Kung Fu Panda’s Wrestling.
The event was supported by a team of more than 50 sports leaders from Newlands Girls’ School.
The team were ‘keen and enthusiastic’ and ‘encouraging’, putting the children ‘at ease and ensuring everyone experienced success’.
The event saw the youngsters rewarded with ‘I achieved 60 Active Minutes today’ certificates for taking part.
Schools across Maidenhead and Cookham took part.
Emma Fitzgerald, partnership development manager from the School Sport Partnership, said: “It’s great to have such a huge demand from our schools for this participation, fun-focused active event.
“A double sports hall is a brilliant safe space to get these children enjoying being active.
“They had endless energy and should be very proud of themselves.
“The variety of activity, and fast pace held their imagination, and the smiles on their faces suggested they had a great time.
“What I love about this event is how inclusive it is – being able to take a whole class of children.
“Thank you to all of our schools who got on board. These children now know about their 60 daily active minutes target, and hopefully had fun achieving it today.”
