Maidenhead United u13s Vipers continued their strong start to the season with a thrilling 5-4 victory over Winnersh Rangers u13s Hurricanes at the weekend.
Coming off the back of a 5-1 victory over Ashridge Park the previous weekend, the Vipers have been in fine form this season and they once again showed character and skill to edge out Winnersh in a thrilling match.
Adding to his goal tally after last weekend’s brace, striker Zayn Davis-Hussain netted a hat-trick while Ronan-Ray Frater and Rex Walkenden-Egan also got their name on the scoresheet as the Vipers chalked up their second win of the season.
They needed to dig deep to do so, with the game finely poised at 2-2 at half-time and both sides showing good attacking intent.
The midfield battle was fierce, as Winnersh Rangers’ number 6 and 9 gave Maidenhead’s resilient defence and midfield a tough time, putting them under pressure as they tried to wrestle back control of the game. Despite this, the Vipers’ backline stood strong and showed great composure.
In the second half, the Vipers turned up the intensity, scoring three more goals to take command of the match. But the Hurricanes were not quite done and with 10 minutes to play, they clawed two goals back to set up a tense finale.
The Vipers, however, held their ground, showing the same defensive resilience that has been key to their early season success.
Captain William Biggs once again led by example, organising his side and ensuring the team stayed composed under late pressure. His leadership, particularly in communication, has been vital to the Vipers’ impressive defensive efforts over the past two games.
The Vipers’ ability to handle the late fightback from Winnersh highlights the team’s growing confidence and cohesion as a new squad. With two wins from two, Maidenhead United U13 Juniors Vipers have kicked off their season in style, with both their attacking flair and defensive solidity on full display.
