Boss Scott Davies said he has ‘unfinished business’ at Slough Town after he agreed a contract extension.
The 37-year-old has earned a reputation as one of the National League South’s most promising up-and-coming managers since taking over the Rebels hotseat in November 2022.
Alongside his coaching team including assistant boss Tony Fontenelle, Davies has led Slough to memorable FA Cup runs and maintained their status at Step 2 of non-league.
Slough’s player manager had to oversee another major squad overhaul in the summer while also battling an injury crisis through the first half of the season.
But an impressive run to the second round of the FA Cup, coupled with a derby day victory away at Maidenhead United on Boxing Day, has given supporters cause for renewed optimism.
Davies has now put pen to paper on a contract extension until the end of 2027/28 season – news that will come as a relief to Rebels supporters.
In an interview with Slough Town’s Connor McNeish, Davies said: “Slough is a place that I’ve grown to love.
“It’s a place that I feel is home and I feel like there’s a lot of unfinished business and a lot of work I want to get through and hopefully conquer with the management team and players we’ve got.”
Throughout Davies’ tenure, Slough have provided a platform for talented players from the non-league pyramid to showcase their talents.
But this has drawn attention from some of the National League’s so called bigger clubs and resulted in the departure of a string of talented players including Temi Eweka, Leon Chambers-Parillon and Slavi Spasov.
Slough’s player manager is now hoping he can secure the club’s National League South status and avoid major squad churn in the summer by tying down his new-look squad to fresh deals.
“I really want to try and keep this group together,” Davies said.
“I think we’ve got massive potential in the group. Hopefully now I’ve sorted my deal, we’ll be able to tie down some of the players for next season as well.
“We’ve not had consistency for three years. We have to chop and change sometimes on a monthly basis and consistency is what every manager craves.”
Slough’s player manager said he has no plans to hang up his boots just yet and hopes he can remain an option as a squad player in the 2026/27 season.
Supporters will be hoping they have not seen the last of his trademark set pieces which have delivered a number of memorable moments over recent seasons.
Davies said: “The backing of the fans from day one has been incredible, especially off the back of taking over from two legends (Neil Baker and Jon Underwood).
“It’s important to say is this is for everyone.
“I really do believe we’ve got a group of players at the moment who can go and spring a surprise on most teams in the league. The fear factor on how we can play scares some teams.”
He added: “Our aspiration is always to try and get into the play-offs if we can and be that team that springs a surprise on someone. If it’s not that, it’s to make sure we finish comfortably in the table and make sure we don’t end up in a relegation scrap.
“Success for me is always about trying to achieve the impossible. We try and do it every year but it’s so, so difficult in this league.”
