A hotel by the Maidenhead riverside has reopened following major interior refurbishment.
The Thames Hotel in Ray Mead Road dates back to 1886 and was independently owned and operated by the Owen family until its sale for almost £2.5million in 2024.
The hotel has since been taken over by national hotel company Uno Hotels and rebranded as the Uno Thames Hotel.
After operating the hotel as it was for around six to seven months after taking over, the company closed the doors to undertake a major refurbished of its 36 bedrooms and amenities.
Alex Badea, cluster general manager for Uno Hotels, said: “Uno Hotels took over in April 2024 [and] we started this refurbishment.
“We refurbished fully the entire building. Nothing has been changed [in terms of] the structure of the building, but we’ve refurbished all the bedrooms.
“We refurbished the restaurant, we refurbished the terrace, we refurbished everything in there with new furniture.”
As part of the work, the carpets were also changed, new sockets, switches and wallpaper was put in, and the the bathrooms were also transformed.
The hotel offers free satellite channels on its televisions, which are also connected to the WiFi and have smart features, letting guests log onto streaming platforms such as Netflix, hotel manager Sarin Neroth, said.
He added: “The artwork and everything we have created is showing the nature part.
“So, everything is related to nature – the wood, the green colours and all the rooms have beige, and bright colours.”
Mr Badea called the transformation ‘amazing’.
The hotel opened on Tuesday, March 3 and held an open day, which was attended by around 60 to 70 people.
“[On Tuesday], we had a very large crowd of people,” Mr Badea added.
“We opened the hotel for everybody to see the bedrooms and the feedback we [that] received, it was amazing.
“They liked the design and the colours [that] we chose.”
The company has plans to open another restaurant on the ground floor level.
“It used to be an old restaurant, because this hotel has two parts,” Mr Badea added.
“So, one part which is ready and then the other one is still under refurbishment.
“It’s going to be a ground floor restaurant there. So that’s the future plans, which is due to come by this summer.”
The upcoming restaurant will be called Dehradoon.
The company also opened more employment positions at the newly-transformed hotel.
