Homemade cakes and hearty jacket potatoes are on the menu at Burnham’s newest coffee shop, YumMe.
Launching earlier this month, the Eastfield Road eatery offers a wide range of teas, coffees and meals and snacks as both dine-in and takeaway options.
The former florist shop has also been fully refurbished with a home from home décor feel plus perks such as WiFi and air conditioning.
Owner Jo Mortimer is pleased by how YumMe has been received by locals and businesses.
“We opened just over a week ago and it’s going really well. It’s really busy,” she said.
“Local people are enjoying it because we haven’t had anything like it for a while and we’ve picked up a lot of trade from builders and local businesses nearby.”
Jo is also the owner of healthy meal preparation service Stacked, but wanted YumMe to have a different feel.
She said: “It was mixture of two things. I needed to move into a commercial kitchen but I also needed a hub for people to collect their food from but then I
didn’t want it to be solely a
meal pick-up point so we
decided on a little café.
“There’s nothing like it in this area, and everything else is
commercialised, so we wanted to do something a little bit more homely.”
Jo said that the café will stock lots of ‘favourites’ from sandwiches and salads to homemade cakes, brownies and cookies.
She said: “Having homemade cakes in here was an absolute must I didn’t want to go to another store and pick up your commercial stuff. It had to be homemade.
“I found these local companies: Lauren’s kitchen Bakes, Coco Cookies by Chloe and Glitz and Glam Bakes by Jade who specialise in that kind of thing.
“That’s what we wanted to be from the start: a small business helping other small businesses.”
Future plans for YumMe include events for families such as ‘princess afternoon teas’.
