The Royal Borough and Slough Borough Council (SBC) have joined forces to launch a new online tool providing free advice to residents to support their independent living.
AskSARA is a new online self-assessment tool, which provides quick, personalised advice on technology and equipment to make everyday tasks easier.
It covers more than 90 topics and takes users through a simple set of questions, before generating a tailored report containing impartial recommendations.
The tool, which is available for residents to access, is free to use, does not require users to sign up and does not collect personal data.
It is designed to be user-friendly and accessible, and support is available at local libraries for those who need help to get online.
AskSARA has been funded through the Department of Health and Social Care’s (DHSC) Accelerating Reform Fund.
The new system has been established by Living Made Easy, part of the Shaw Trust, which is a national charity supporting those with complex needs.
The advice is produced by qualified occupational therapists.
If the tool finds that someone may benefit from further assessment, it will signpost them to the appropriate support.
Councillor Catherine del Campo, The Royal’s Borough’s cabinet member for adult services, health and housing services, said: “AskSARA is a brilliant example of how partnership working can deliver real benefits for our communities.
“By joining forces with Slough Borough Council, we’re making best use of the funding available to us to give people the expert advice they need to stay independent for longer and make informed choices about their wellbeing.
“It’s simple, free-to-use, and puts residents in control.”
Cllr Anna Wright, lead member for adult social care at SBC, said: “I am so pleased to see the launch of AskSARA, our new online self-assessment tool in partnership with the Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead.
“The main benefit of AskSARA is that it provides residents with instant, personalised advice on practical equipment and technology to help them live independently.
“Carers and family members can also use the online tool, which also signposts to useful local services.”
