Back-up goalie Matt Passmore got the opportunity to deputise between the sticks and earned Invicta Mustangs’ man of the match in spite of their 13-1 humbling by Slough Jets at The Hangar.
The Jets got off to slow start and Passmore turned away 18 of the 19 attempts they had on goal in the first period, including saving a penalty shot which was awarded to Conor Redmond in the eighth minute.
And it was Slough’s man of the match Josh Earley-Newman who eventually got the hosts on the scoreboard at 14.49, scoring from Liam Underdown’s pass.
The Jets began to assert their authority on the contest from the middle of the second period, scoring five goals before Mustang’s only marker on the scoreboard at 36.21.
Two short-handed goals from Zoran Kozic and Redmond, plus strikes from Josh Earley-Newman, Underdown and, from the point, Graham Bellamy, gave the hosts an unassailable 6-0 lead.
An unstoppable shot from Mustang’s Jake Luton eluded the previously unbeatable Danny Milton for the visitors’ only score. However, the Jets brushed off the setback and Kozic’s second and Earley-Newman’s third made it 8-1 by the end of the middle period.
The visitors upped their game in the final period, with Jussi Lynch-Grut taking over from Passmore between the pipes.
They attempted to take a foothold in the game, however, the side which is bottom of the table, and without a league win, were simply not up to the task.
Slough took advantage of the gaps in the Mustang’s defence to rattle home five more goals.
*This weekend the Jets play twice on the road at Chelmsford tomorrow(Saturday, face-off 5.30pm) and Haringey (Sunday).
The Jets next home game is against Basingstoke onFebruary 14.
