The Hand and Flowers was one of several gastropubs to make the top 50
Tom Kerridge’s The Hand and Flowers and The Coach as well as Heston Blumenthal’s The Hind’s Head are among a selection of local gastropubs which have made a prestigious top 50 list.
Dominic Chapman’s The Beehive was also among the top-rated pubs in the area, ranking 11th on the list.
Chef Kerridge’s Marlow-based pubs landed in 10th and 13th respectively in the annual rankings, sponsored by brewer Estrella Damm.
The Loch and the Tyne in Old Windsor was 27th, whilst The Hind’s Head in Bray, which has been owned by Blumenthal since 2004, rounded off the top 50 gastropubs in East Berkshire and South Bucks in 44th.
In deciding the list, judges sought to focus on more than just the food and drink available to customers.
The ‘friendly, comfortable and relaxing’ atmosphere helped The Hand and Flowers into the top ten, with good customer service and great hospitality also being highlighted.
A key focus on top quality alcohol helped The Beehive into 11th, whilst The Coach’s focus on being a ‘true local pub’ with its offering of sport and small plates was praised by critics.
Creativity, a word often associated with the experimental Heston Blumenthal, saw The Hind’s Head once again make the top 50.
