Police talking to drivers while cracking down on speeding.
Bobbies on the beat will be cracking down on speeding in Marlow more and more as Christmas approaches, they have said.
Posting on the TVP South Bucks Facebook page on Monday (November 24), the Marlow Neighbourhood Policing Team (NHPT) – traditionally called beat bobbies – said:
“Some of our Marlow NHPT officers out and about today conducting speeding operations, which will increase as we head towards the festive period.”
That day, three drivers were reported for exceeding the 30mph speed limit, with the highest speed recorded at 51mph.
“Please drive safely and within the speed limit,” the team added. “It’s 30 for a reason.”
Previous speed checks in South Bucks the week prior saw 19 vehicles stopped for speeding, and 10 drivers reported for speed offences.
One was reported for a seatbelt offence. Drivers and passengers must wear a seatbelt if one is fitted in their seat, with a few exceptions like reversing or medical exemptions.
Drivers are responsible for ensuring children under 14 are properly restrained.
Also on the driving front, police dished out a fine to someone who parked directly opposite Marlow Police Station, on double yellow lines, blocking pavement access.
“[They were] dangerously parked, increasing risk of incident and injury to other road users and pedestrians,” the team wrote.
To add a head-scratching aspect to this decision, Dean Street car park is about 100 yards away, police noted.
The parking offender was fined £30 and given a talking-to by officers.
There was also a road safety awareness talk at Foxes Piece primary school in Newfield Gardens, Marlow, mainly focused on awareness while crossing and cycling on the roads.
In other police news, the neighbourhood team also did a knife sweep at parks around the area, while others completed anti-burglary patrols in South Bucks. They did not report finding anything.
In addition, this Thames Valley Police team has been doing some work on burglary prevention.
“Dedicated resources have been focusing on towns and villages most impacted by burglary, as well as patrols of certain roads with the aim to combat cross county offending,” TVP South Bucks wrote.
“They attended burglaries in progress and followed up on multiple vehicles that had activated ANPR systems [automatic number plate recognition cameras].
“This is all with the aim to detect, deter and disrupt potential criminal activity in hours of darkness.”
If you see suspicious activity or have information that could be related to burglary (or other crime), you can report by calling 101 or at thamesvalley.police.uk
Lastly, Marlow NHPT helped support an elderly lady after she was scammed out of thousands of pounds by scammers impersonating the police.
“If you have relatives or friends who live on their own and may be vulnerable, please check on them and ensure that they are aware of this long-standing scam,” they wrote.
