A footballer turned gardener from Maidenhead is celebrating after scooping a top prize at a national flower show.
Michael Chatterton, 66, who lives in Birdwood Road, Maidenhead, won the F.W. Alesworth Perpetual Challenge Cup at the National Dahlia Society’s annual national show at RHS Wisley, in Woking, which was held from Tuesday, September 8, till Friday, September 11.
Mr Chatterton, who played for Maidenhead United FC in the 1970s, received the award for his entry in the small semi-cactus category.
Speaking about the win, he said: “I didn’t really have designs on this particular championship so it feels really good to acomplish it.”
