AFC Henley Over 50s continued to be the comeback kings, albeit with a draw rather than a win during last Sunday’s Oxfordshire Veterans League clash with Headington Butchers.

The visitors took the lead when a break down the Henley left saw the ball crossed to an unmarked player for a tap-in. Henley equalised when a good move down the right saw the ball played back to Simon Hearn who finished from 20 yards.

In an even game the visitors regained the lead when a cross-shot from the right was turned into his own goal by Dan Hjorth.

In the second half, the visitors moved into a 3-1 lead when an unopposed header was guided just inside the far post from the left corner of the six-yard box.

Henley never gave up as Costa Onisor rounded the keeper to reduce the deficit to 3-2. AFC Henley were awarded a penalty in injury time following a push and Onisor converted to make it 3-3.

Henley nearly won it with the last kick of the game but Panos Gkounidis blasted over from close range after the ball cannoned off the post from an Onisor shot.

Henley remain second in the league having secured half their season’s points tally from losing positions.
