New Maidenhead burger bar to offer ‘the filthiest dirtiest burgers' in town

Chuck and Blade founders Alex and Dave, are set to open a new restaurant in Maidenhead

A new Maidenhead burger restaurant offering ‘the filthiest dirtiest burgers you’re going to get’ is poised to open in King Street.

Chuck and Blade Burgers, run by directors Alex Hatzidakis, 38, and David Luck, 40, has moved into the former Pizza Hut outlet next to Odeon – with work underway to transform the venue.

Alex told the Advertiser: “We say they’re the filthiest dirtiest burgers you're going to get - but also the healthiest options because we don’t add any preservative ingredients into it.”

The burger chain opened its doors in May 2020 and has expanded to run multiple outlets: from Rochester and Canterbury to Eastbourne and Poole.

Alex said he and David saw a ‘a gap in the market’ for a burger restaurant in Maidenhead, and further opportunity in the town given new developments under construction.

One Maidenhead - a major 429 flat development that opened in June - is opposite the new Chuck and Blade site.

“We know there’s a lot of developments going on there,” said Alex. “We’ve worked closely with Legal & General.

He added: “The site we’ve taken on is a Legal & General site so when they said there’s an option to take on a site there we thought it would be a great option.

“We’ve done quite a bit of research. We use Deliveroo for quite a lot of statistics but we’ve eaten out a lot recently while doing the fit-out of the new restaurant.

“Looking at the local restaurants and local rates, there’s a great offering overall but no real burger option so we saw a little gap in the market there.”

When Chuck and Blade opens, foodies can expect a menu offering classics such as the double cheeseburger, as well as limited edition options.

The venue has also applied for a license to serve alcohol.

“We do very much American-style burgers and everything we do we try and do in-house. We don’t buy in products we make things ourselves and using our own blends,” Alex said.

“So meat is coming straight from the butcher and buns straight from the baker; as fresh as possible, as clean as possible, at the highest quality; and everything made to order really.”

He said: “It's casual dining, but we like it intimate.

“The atmosphere should come across quite dark black, but we use a lot of neon lighting and mood lighting to create a good atmosphere that’s quite intimate but also quite refreshing.”

And Maidonians may not have to wait too long to get their teeth into a Chuck and Blade Burger.

Work is underway to give the site a new lease of life with a fresh paint scheme and new kitchen facilities.

Alex said: “We are aiming for October. People are saying it can’t be done, but I’ve opened restaurants within two weeks of getting the keys so I'm aiming for October, if all goes well. At the latest November.”
