New 'Safer Towns' team catches youngsters with drugs and weapons

A newly formed police team in Slough has ‘hit the ground running’ with a number of legal actions in its first week – including arresting two youngsters found with drugs and weapons.

Thames Valley Police has a Safer Towns Team in Slough – a ‘visible policing’ initiative which saw the team conducting foot and bike patrols to crack down on crime.

It has been involved in stop-and-searches, enforcing no-alcohol zones and engaging with businesses and the public – and has been seizing both drugs and e-scooters

• In one week, it has made ‘multiple arrests’, the team says.
• One man was charged on suspicion of Class A drug supply and remanded to prison
• A woman was arrested on recall to prison
• A juvenile arrested after being found in possession of a knife and a knuckle duster
• Another juvenile was arrested on suspicion of Class B drug supply
• One man charged with shoplifting and theft from a vehicle, who was remanded to prison and later pleaded guilty in court
• One man charged on suspicion of five separate crimes of shoplifting, and remanded to prison
• One man arrested on suspicion of burglary, then released pending an investigation.

Writing on Facebook, the TVP Slough team hailed it as ‘a strong start to making Slough safer.’

Meanwhile, last week the Slough Neighbourhood Policing Team operated in Chalvey, Upton and the town centre.

Among other activities, they arrested three people, did stop-and-search and high street patrols, checked on areas of concern, and supported a closure order - addressing ongoing issues at properties linked to anti-social behaviour.

They also seized two dogs, making sure they were taken to safety 'after concerns about their welfare' were raised; and seized an e-scooter, amid a reminder that privately owned e-scooters can’t be used in public places like streets or parks.
