Wife’s plea for support after husband suffers severe burns in Wraysbury fire

Ernestas Tamasauskas sustained third-degree burns across 80 per cent of his body.

A woman is appealing to the community for help funding medical and living expenses after a large fire left her husband with severe burns across 80 per cent of his body.

On September 6, firefighters were called to a garage in The Green, Wraysbury ‘engulfed’ in flames.

The blaze left a man in his mid-30s with life-threatening injuries. He was hospitalised and in critical condition.

People from the nearby pub, The Perseverance, rushed to help before firefighters and paramedics arrived.

But the man, Ernestas Tamasauskas, sustained third-degree burns across 80 per cent of his body.

According to his wife, Liveta Tamasauskiene, he is currently in hospital in an induced coma to manage his injuries.

He remains in intensive care, where his condition is described as critical but stable.

She has set up a funding page which she says will help with costs of medical treatment and long-term care for Ernestas, living expenses for his family, and visa and travel expenses.

Originally from Lithuania, Ernestas had been living and working in Wraysbury.

“Our two-year-old daughter and I live in Lithuania, while Ernestas was the only family provider,” Liveta wrote.

“We had been planning for his return so we could finally settle and begin our life together in our first family home.”

The travel expenses are ‘so I can be by my husband’s side in the UK’, she said.

“Every day is stressful and filled with hope as we wait and pray for him to wake up and begin the long road to recovery,” Liveta wrote.

“His recovery will take many months, and during this time, our family is facing financial uncertainty.

“As a stay-at-home mum, I am doing everything I can to stay strong for our daughter, but we are facing financial challenges ahead.

“Your kindness and generosity can help us through this heart-breaking time. No matter how small, every donation truly makes a difference.

“If you are unable to contribute financially, please keep Ernestas in your thoughts and prayers — your support and compassion mean the world to us.”

So far, more than £23,400 has been raised, exceeding an original target of £5,000 – including an anonymous donation of £10,000.

This is more than four times the original goal – ‘reflecting the outpouring of compassion for Ernestas and his family’, says GoFundMe, who said Ernestas was ‘well-known locally’.

The fundraiser has been shared around several parts of social media including on Wraysbury groups.

The Express understands the fire is being treated by police as an industrial accident, and an investigation is under way with support from the Health and Safety Executive.
