International Women's Day celebrated at Chalvey Community Centre event

Celebrations for International Women's Day took place in Slough on Saturday.

Women from across the town came together at Chalvey Community Centre, in The Green, for a day of fun and celebration.

The event was organised by Thames Valley Police and saw a number of organisations from the town take part.

These included Domestic Abuse Stops Here (DASH), the NHS, and Destiny Support,  who all had information stalls about the crucial work they carry out.

The event was officially opened by Slough MP, Fiona Mactaggart, who talked about equality and the need for women to work together to secure a brighter future.

Slough neighbourhood police inspector, Nikki Pierce, said: "The purpose of today is to bring women together to celebrate making our futures happen from a careers and life perspective.

"It does not just bring women together but communities together and in the times we are in at the moment we all need to work together."

Other guest speakers at the event included ITV presenter Sangeeta Bhabra, while activities included Bollywood dancing, a raffle, and face painting.
