With so much to see, taste, hear and touch in the run up to a wedding, smell often gets overlooked. But fragrance can play a big part in creating mood and memories. So take time to give some thought to the scent of your wedding day.
My wedding was at a pub. Thankfully, gentle wafts of stale ale aren’t among my memories. It was a remote Scottish inn and the smell of crisp sea air still takes me back there. For others it’s the smell of the flowers that they chose, or the fragrance that they wore.
As a twist on ‘old’ and ‘borrowed’, the nostalgic amongst us may like the idea of floating down the aisle wearing the same fragrance that our mothers wore on their wedding day. But that only really works if your mother had great taste in fragrance.
For those who’d rather create their own romance, Jo Malone is the perfect place to start. With so much on their menu, you’re bound to find something to tickle your personal olfactory fancy. I struck gold recently with their Oud & Bergamot Dry Body Oil (£48 for 100ml) - a new member of the Jo Malone Cologne Intense range that sits alongside its cologne sibling (£100 for 100ml). It smells sexy and sultry, woody and wonderful and would add hypnotic charm to a winter wedding. The dry body oil, which isn’t even a little bit greasy, can be layered with the cologne for a more intense, longer-lasting fragrance. And there’s a matching candle too (£48 for 200g).The perfect scent of occasion.
Jo Malone offer a fragrance consultancy for brides-to-be (and anyone else wanting to create memories with scent) at their Windsor store and at their concession in John Lewis High Wycombe. The Cologne Intense range also includes: Dark Amber & Ginger Lily, Rose Water & Vanilla, Iris & White Musk, Amber & Patchouli, Velvet Rose & Oud and, last but not least, the oh so delicious Saffron.
