Worldwide job cuts at BlackBerry have been announced after the company declared a loss of £621m.
The Canadian company, whose UK headquarters are in Bath Road, Slough, said this was down to the 'increasingly competitive business environment' and a pre-tax restructuring charge of £45m.
In a statement released on Friday, BlackBerry announced restructuring plans, including cutting 4,500 jobs in order to reduce its operating expenditure by 50 per cent by the end of the fiscal year in 2015.
Thorsten Heins, president and chief executive, of BlackBerry said, "We are implementing the difficult, but necessary operational changes announced today to address our position in a maturing and more competitive industry, and to drive the company toward profitability.
"Going forward, we plan to refocus our offering on our end-to-end solution of hardware, software and services for enterprises and the productive, professional end user."
A spokesman from BlackBerry UK was unable to confirm if any of the jobs at their Slough HQ would be cut.
He said: "We will not comment on rumours and speculation.
"As previously stated, we are in the second phase of our transformation plan and organisational moves will continue to occur to ensure we have the right people in the right roles to drive new opportunities in mobile computing."
