Muslims celebrating Eid have been warned by Slough Borough Council to stay clear of black henna which can cause burning.
The council's trading standards team have received intelligence from a householder that a black henna party is due to take place in the run-up to Eid.
The chemicals in black henna can cause severe allergic reactions and lasting damage to the skin.
It is recommended only natural brown henna is used.
Trading standards officer Russell Clarke said: "While we don't want to ruin any Eid celebrations, we do want people to be celebrating safely and using products that have been tested to safety standards.
"If you are unsure about the product being used don't attend the party or ask the person delivering the service which product they are using."
