A memorial bench to the former president of the Twyford and Ruscombe Horticultural Association, Les Moody, has been unveiled.
The bench, dedicated to Les, who was president for more than 30 years, was unveiled at the Trading Store in Loddon Hall Road, on Sunday last week.
It was unveiled by his wife Jean and paid for by donations from association members and Les’s friends.
The bench is flanked by two tubs of ‘Jeanne’ Sweet Peas, bred by Les, who received an Award of Merit from the Royal Horticultural Society and the National Sweet Pea Society. He named the sweet pea after his wife Jean and his daughter Nickianne.
Les’s wife said the bench and sweet peas were a treasured memorial of her husband's work in his years as president.
Association president, Hugh Ranscombe, said it was a ‘fitting’ tribute to Les and thanked Claire Clark who he called the driving force behind volunteers who renovated the garden to create a special place for Les's memorial.
