Maidenhead B&G u11s Dolphins celebrated their first ever tournament victory at the Sportsfest Football Tournament in Bourne End on Saturday.
The Dolphins clinched the trophy with a fine 3-0 win in the final, having won six of their seven matches en route to lifting the cup.
Harry Linaker, Ollie Mc
Michael and Joel Wallace shared goalkeeping duties and pulled off a string of great saves between them, while Sam King, Alistair Bailey, George Reed and John Barnes worked tirelessly in midfield, with Joel Wallace bagging the lion’s share of their goals.
“We played eight matches, winning six and drawing one,” said team manager Mark Bailey. “The team scored 16 goals in total and conceded only one. Most importantly the team defended well during the course of the tournament.
“All eight players pulled together and delivered to the top of their game.
“If we can keep playing the way we did, I’m pretty sure it won’t be long before we add to the trophy cabinet once again.”
W Maidenhead’s u14s Cobras also impressed, despite losing narrowly to a team from Marlow in their final.
The Cobras finished fourth in their group before edging out one of the other Marlow sides in the semi-finals on spot-kicks. Ryan El-Hawary, Marcus O’Brien and Casper Todorovski all made sure from the spot with Andrew Maclean making a crucial save.
In another tight affair they were then edged out 1-0 by Marlow in the final.
