A new community hub providing a range of groups and activities has launched in Britwell.
National charity Oasis launched the Britwell Community Hub on Friday, May 17 at the Britwell Centre.
The event brought together Oasis founder Reverend Steve Chalke and Oasis Hub Britwell leader Julie Siddiqi, alongside an array of guest speakers from the world of medicine, education and social services.
Multiple speakers who will be working in partnership with the hub featured at the event.
These include Steve Chalke, Britwell GP Dr Nithya Nanda, Slough director of operations at NHS Frimley Sangeeta Saran, and Beechwood School headteacher Anita Spires.
Oasis currently has more than 35 community hubs across the UK.
Each hub works with people in the area to build stronger communities where everyone is able to contribute, is included and can reach their full potential.
The work of Oasis hubs includes running pantries, food banks, toddler groups, youth clubs, gardening centres, debt advice and farms.
The hub in Britwell looks to start an array of groups, events and activities, some of which include volunteer groups, a toddler group, a walking group, exercise classes (including women-only sessions), regular residents’ meetings, music, sport and outdoor activities, and art events.
The hub will be run by Oasis in collaboration with residents, community groups, GPs, schools, churches and other cultural and faith groups.
Julie Siddiqi, Oasis Hub Britwell leader, said: “Oasis is a national charity doing amazing and inspirational work all over the UK and we are so excited that they have chosen Britwell as their newest place to work, in partnership with all of our local groups and partners already here and helping to build stronger communities for a better future.”
Reverend Steve Chalke, founder of Oasis, said: “I am excited and proud that Oasis will be working in and with the local community of Britwell and that Julie Siddiqi, who has lived in the local community for so long, is joining our team.
“Oasis Hub Britwell will be a place of holistic, joined-up care that nourishes children, inspires young people, supports parents, and empowers the elderly.
“At its heart Oasis Community Hub is dedicated both to the inclusion and flourishing of everyone in Britwell.”
