Newly-installed Maidenhead station lift out of use over 'extreme rainfall' issues

A newly-installed lift at Maidenhead Railway Station is currently out of use only weeks after reopening due to 'extreme rainfall'.

The lift to platforms 2 and 3 only reopened this month after being out of use for several months due to improvement works at the station, which involved relocating and renewing the lift serving these platforms.

During the works, the lift on platforms 2 and 3 was out of use and passengers who needed step-free access had two options.

These included travelling to Reading and coming back to Maidenhead and using the lift on platforms 4 and 5, or using the taxi provision implemented for those requiring passenger assist

Residents needing step-free access raised concerns during the works over the situation and the impact it was having on them.

A Network Rail spokesperson said: “The passenger lift to platforms 2 and 3 at Maidenhead station was taken out of service yesterday (Monday 23 September) because of issues related to a period of extreme rainfall, which caused water pooling.

“We are investigating the cause of this and a solution to prevent a reoccurrence.

“We’re sorry for the inconvenience this may cause for passengers and are working to restore the lift to full service as soon as possible.”
