Main works begin on major roundabout near Pinewood Studios

The main phase of major work has begun at Five Points Roundabout in Iver relating to Pinewood Studios development – with long-term traffic management set to continue for over a year.

Work is taking place on the busy A412 west of the Five Points Roundabout and Wood Lane in Iver.

This is phase two of works which have been ongoing since the summer of 2024.

Preparatory work took place all day from morning to evening on weekdays – these extended hours were ‘to complete the work as soon as possible.’

Summer and autumn 2024 saw drainage improvement works, culminating in final repairs to the network around Wood Lane.

The next element was work on the roundabout itself and its Wood Lane and Uxbridge Road arms. A drainage pipe was put in near the Crooked Billet Pub car park in October 2024.

Phase 2 of the major works began in September 2025 – contractors, on behalf of Pinewood Studios, began on major improvement works.

Work is to ‘address existing congestion issues’ and involve ‘significant repairs and upgrades’.

This is a ‘legal requirement’ from Buckinghamshire Council in connection with the Pinewood Studios development planning permission.

Highway improvements include traffic lights/signals at the roundabout, pedestrian and cycle crossings and other necessary bits and pieces such as street lighting.

Specifically, it involves making the roundabout larger to improve traffic flow, upgrading footpaths and traffic islands, road resurfacing and installing new signage, signals, and pedestrian crossings.

Ground investigation – testing and surveying the ground conditions before construction starts – took place in in September last year.

Now the main construction works have begun, starting on Monday (January 19) and continuing until March 2027.

First, there will be removal of a number of trees and shrubs, as well as protection of trees intended to be retained, to safeguard them during construction.

Traffic management will be in place throughout the work to allow vehicles to travel through the site ‘with minimum disruption.’

‘Every effort’ will be made to keep disruption to a minimum, Buckinghamshire Council says.

The council will postpone other roadworks in the area to keep traffic moving as much as possible – unless these are emergency works, which Bucks is unable to stop.

To minimise long-term disruption, Bucks council will work with other organisations to combine jobs where possible, so hopefully the roundabout will not have to be disturbed again.

For now, work is scheduled to last until March 2027.

Bucks council wrote on its website: “We continue to communicate with residents, businesses and stakeholders by delivering letters to homes and businesses in the area, updating the information on this page and sharing it on social media.”

Buckinghamshire Council says it will publish updates on its Buckinghamshire Highways social media: X @Bucks_Highways and @BuckinghamshireHighways on Facebook.
