Creative sewists and budding fashion designers are being called to take part in the Slough Fashion Upcycle Competition as it returns for another year.

Slough Anti-Litter Society and Slough BID are asking those interested to get involved in the competition which is currently open for entries.

This year’s catwalk will showcase the creative side of youngsters aged 13 to 19-years-old, as well as anyone else who wishes to take part.

Participants of all backgrounds and ages are encouraged to take part in the opportunity to merge creativity and fashion while ‘advocating for a greener future’.

This year’s theme is Reimagine, Repurpose, Rewear, and participants are asked to create a new sustainable and wearable garment using pre-existing clothing.

The finished looks will be showcased during the catwalk runway show on Saturday, September 7 at the Queensmere Observatory Shopping Centre.

The competition looks to reward and promote inventiveness and creativity, find local talent and create awareness of litter issues in Slough.

Tirza Meinema of Slough Anti-Litter Society, said “We’re thrilled to be back with the Slough Fashion Upcycle Competition, a fun way to be creative and sustainable.

“By giving old clothes or materials new life, we're not only reducing waste but also giving everyone a chance to show off their own unique and amazing style.

“This year's going to be even bigger and better than last year’s, so don't miss out.”

Rifat Khan (Marketing & Events) from Slough Business Improvement District, said: “Join us for a transformative journey on the catwalk, where the community comes together to champion sustainability.

“Witness the beauty of recycled materials reborn into stunning fashion pieces, showcasing the power of upcycling and the potential for a greener, more vibrant future.”

The entries will be judged based on criteria including design concept, visual impact, construction technique, creativity and use of recycled materials.

A total of 20 finalists will be selected to showcase their garments on the Upcycle Runway.

The winner and runners-up in the competition will be chosen at the September show.

Those aged 13 to 19 are in with a chance of taking home the first prize of a £100 JD Sports voucher, and there will be a £100 Tesco voucher for those over the age of 19, sponsored by Slough Town Centre Business Improvement District.

The runner up will receive a £75 TK Maxx voucher, while the third-place contestant will receive a £50 Primark voucher.

The deadline for sending in photos and videos of the new garments is Sunday, August 11 at 11pm.
