Several buildings at Upton Hospital have been given the go-ahead to be demolished.

Slough council has granted approval for the demolition of blocks 15-18 and 26, covering about 6,380sqm, located on the corner junction between Osborne Street and Church Street.

The demolition site is currently unoccupied and fenced off at the perimeter.

The vacant buildings are primarily single storey.

Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust (FHFT) says the buildings are ‘no longer required’.

Proposals are to be sought ‘in due course’ for a new community diagnostic centre there – subject to planning permission being granted.

It is intended that demolition will begin on September 25 and be completed by April 23 next year. No trees are to be felled.

Working hours are intended to be within 8am-5pm, Monday to Friday. If required, and on an intermittent basis, also Saturday 8am-12pm.

FHFT is ‘aware of the sensitivities to noise of those using [or] occupying the adjacent buildings.’

“All reasonable steps will be taken to minimise any noise disruption to adjacent occupiers,” they wrote.

Where it is necessary to carry out noisy activities, these will be identified by the contractor in advance and the timing agreed with FHFT prior to starting work.

The proposed demolition works will be undertaken adjacent to a live hospital.

“It will be essential for the contractor to ensure the continued functioning of the occupied areas, as well as the safety of all patients, visitors, and staff on site,” said FHFT.

Adjacent roads, especially Church Street and Osborne Road, and pavements ‘will be kept clean and tidy’ and perimeter hoardings will be repainted ‘from time to time,’ with any graffiti removed.

The redundant block 34 car park, located at the rear of the site close to Osborne Street, has been identified as the location for a site office and welfare facilities.

Access to the facilities will be via Osborne Street.
